How to Copy and Paste on Procreate

In this short tutorial, I’ll go over six different ways to copy and paste in Procreate. I will be using visual examples along with the text.

Use your three fingers down the canvas to access all of the Copy and Paste menu options.

Swipe down on your Procreate canvas with 3 fingers at the same time (forefinger, middle finger, and ring finger).

If you don’t use your pointer, middle, and ring fingers, you won’t be able to do this. Those are the only three options.

Hold our 3 fingers again and swipe down to paste. See the example below

Copying and Pasting an Entire Layer in Procreate

You can also Copy and Paste an entire layer by following the steps below:

  1. Locate the layer you want to copy and select it by highlighting it
  2. Tap the layer to bring up the layer settings on the left-hand side
  3. Select copy from the drop-down menu
  4. In the top menu bar, select the wrench tool
  5. Select the add tab as the first tab
  6. Select Paste to paste your copied layer into your layer menu

Duplicate a Layer in Procreate

This is how you duplicate layers in Procreate

  1. Swipe left on the layer you want to duplicate.
  2. Select duplicate, and your layer will be duplicated right away

How to Copy and Paste a Layer to a New Canvas in Procreate

To copy and paste a layer to a new canvas, first open the layers panel and select the layer you want to copy. 

  1. Select copy from the layer, then go to your new Procreate canvas and select the wrench tool
  2. Select the add tab as the first tab
  3. Select Paste to paste your copied layer into your layer menu

How to Copy and Paste a Single Element to a New Canvas in Procreate

  1. Select the Selections tool from the drop-down menu
  2. Trace a circle around the element you want to duplicate
  3. Select copy from the wrench tool by clicking on it
  4. Open your new Procreate canvas, select the wrench tool, and select the first tab add from the drop-down menu
  5. Select Paste to paste your copied element onto a new layer
